This week we are going to look at Psalm 119 , At the beginning of the summer

we learned that Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible and that

the whole chapter is about God’s law/ God’s Word.

This morning we are only going to look at one section , but you may

want to read all of it with your family during the week some time.

Read Psalms 119: 105-108

Memory Verse: Psalm 119:105 (NIV)–Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

Imagine you were walking through dark woods and you didn’t know where you were or where you were going.  You cannot see ahead, because it is so dark, but you keep walking.  Then, you realize that you have had a flashlight in your pocket the whole time!  You forgot!  Whenever you turn the light on, you can see the path that was always close to you.  As you follow the path with the light you wonder how you ever lost it, but, because it is so dark you could never find it.  This is why we should always have our light out, which is the Bible.

The Bible is our light in darkness.  The Bible is God’s word to us.  By reading and memorizing the Bible we are able to carry our flashlight with us at all times!  God gave us the Bible so that we may be able to find our way; we, however, must be willing to accept the guidance the Bible offers.  Let us read more of this passage together…

105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. 107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, Lord, according to your word. 108 Accept, Lord, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws.

An oath is a commitment or a promise to do something.  The person who wrote this says that they promise to follow God’s ways.  They know that if they follow God’s ways, then they will be on the right path and not be led into darkness.  When they take the oath or promise, they are so happy that they praise God.  It is so important for us to remember God’s words and keep them in our hearts.

The Bible says about Jesus in John 1:4-5,

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Jesus is our light.  He shines in the darkness.  Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10).  Jesus, God’s only Son, came to give his life for us.  He died on a cross to be able to forgive our sins.  Sins are what we do that are against God’s laws (like telling lies, stealing, and hurting others).  Jesus gave up his life, which shows his love for us.  We must believe in him, and believe God who sent Jesus.  God’s word is light for our dark path, and the Bible also says that Jesus is light for our dark path.  Jesus is the Word (John1:1).

Prayer:

We all have a light inside of us, help us to read our Bibles every day to make that light shine so bright. Follow your hearts and your dreams. Be kind to ALL of God's children along the way!

Jesus loves you and so do I !

Blessings,

Mrs Jill
