What have you seen God doing at Turner Christian Church? Over the past several months, I have learned how powerful a question this can be. My normal habit is to ask, “What are the problems?” and “How can I fix them?” My intentions are good, but I end up spending all my time looking for problems and realizing that it’s not in my power to fix them. Last Fall, at our prayer meetings, we started asking the question, “What is God doing?” and following it up with, “How could we join in with him?” The difference has been astounding.

First of all, I find myself in a much more positive place when I focus on what God is doing. Problems are still visible, but they are no longer the center of my focus. Instead, I am starting with the fact that God is moving and working in the world around me, and that grounds me in hope. Second of all, the question, “How could we join with what God is doing?” is much easier to answer than “How can we fix this problem?” So many problems that we face are beyond our control. There are many problems that none of us could ever fix. But we can always join in with what God is doing, no matter what our circumstances or abilities. Even if it’s “just” through prayer, we can always participate in what God is doing.

As we have done this practice together at the prayer meetings, we have started to see a beautiful picture emerge. Each time we gather, as each person adds their perceptions and observations, we add to this picture of a beautiful, quirky congregation that is widely intergenerational, very welcoming, eager to help each other, and passionate about serving our community. We see God moving as he builds relationships within our congregation, brings up new leaders and volunteers, fills our building with ministries and community groups, and creates a powerful atmosphere of family love among us.

As exciting as all these observations are, the most exciting part is when we begin to talk about how we can join in with what he’s doing–because God isn’t done! He’s continuing to work, and we have a chance to lean into what he is doing: to make that bond of family love the center of what we do as a congregation. This is our focus going forward: how can we shape our gatherings and ministries in a way that fits with the family God is building here? As we discuss and discern what that looks like, I want to invite all of you to participate in the process. We would love for everyone in our church family to attend the prayer meetings. If you can’t attend, pray for the prayer meetings. Pray for our church leaders–the Elders and Church Board–as they steward our resources and guide our congregation. And keep watching for what God is doing—because he’s always moving, and he has given you a unique view of his work to share with others.

God bless!

This year the church is putting together and Easter Choir, led by Debbie Loyd. The Choir will be singing one two-part song at the Easter Service. Practice will be held on three dates: March 5th and 19th, as well as April 4th. All three practices till be at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary. If this sounds interesting to you, please consider joining. You can let us know on the check-in card.

We will have a church work day on Saturday, March 14 at 9:00 am. Lunch will be provided. There will be jobs that various skill and mobility levels can join in on, both inside and outside the church.  Please register online at:

Over forty years ago, Emmanuel Christian Seminary recognized the need to financially help western students who moved across the country to Johnson City, Tennessee. Over 260 students who have been awarded the scholarship are eternally grateful. The main contributors to the Scholarship Fund have been folk like you (here in the west) who have given funds through our various fund-raising events over these years. You are dearly appreciated.

That "on campus" option is still available and provides a rich experience. But another option has been available for a few years: Online Distance Learning Degrees. This is a tremendous option for those who have completed their undergraduate degrees and who are now serving in a local church. They can continue to serve their church while earning a graduate degree. Our pastor, Matt Holmes, is one such student!

We will enjoy a delicious dessert, hear a brief update on the Seminary, award door prizes, provide an opportunity for any, who wish, to contribute to the Pacific Northwest Scholarship Fund, and have a great time together.

Food Bank Volunteers Potluck and Training
will be held on March 16th from Noon - 2:00 pm

April 3, 2026  I  6:30 pm
This year we have combined our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday service into one gathering. Join us as we remember the events of the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and burial of Jesus. This service is a chance to witness the love that Jesus showed on the way to the cross and to show our gratitude for what he has done for us. This service is interactive, and all ages are welcome, but the tone will be more somber and reflective than Sunday Mornings.
